We had out best tournament ever this past weekend at Monmouth University! Our team went 7 - 1, including going 6 - 0 during pool play. Special thanks to all of our players: Danielle Allan, Danielle Coiro, Emily Moran, Vicky Vitale, Liz Vitale, Melanie Kuhn, Ainslee Thompson, Kelsey Mazur, Christie Andolena, and Jen Fotiu. It was very exciting to watch this weekend, and I think the most exciting game was the fourth game on Saturday, when we scored two goals in the last two minutes to win the game, 2-1. I am so proud of our team's efforts this weekend and was even more happy because we did it using a skeleton crew . . . only one sub! The team chemistry, communication, and passing were phenomenal! Kim did a great job coaching and thanks to all of the parents and friends who came to watch us play!
Our next tournament is August 1 at Stevens University in Hoboken for U16 and U19. This will be our 8th and final U19 tournament for summer 2009.
I am looking into the possibility of an August 8 tournament for U16 and U14.

NJ Express Update - April 12
Happy Easter everyone!
It's been a busy spring at NJ Express. We have many things going on at once!
First, our training program has really gotten off the ground! Not only are we working with about 15 - 20 kids each week, but we have also involved kids from "non-field hockey" towns, such as Franklin Lakes, Ridgewood, and Teaneck! I hope that we'll be able to generate enough interest to get a program going in these schools going forward. Janelle and Kim have developed an excellent rapport with our students, and the athletes seem very excited about playing in high school!
Our spring league is going well. It is a little smaller than our winter league (which featured 16 teams), but we have had great games each week! Special thanks for Tom and Nancy for doing such a great job with the officiating and basically running all aspects of the games.
We've also been playing adult pickup games that coincide with our training and spring league. It is totally FREE and FUN! Please email me if you want to come down and join us! Or just show up! We play at 9 AM - 10 AM each Sunday.
We are anxiously awaiting the USFHA Lottery on May 1 to see if we will gain entry in the the National Festival this year! We won a lottery pick in 2007 and 2008. I learned a lot in each of the first two Festivals, and I know that if we are fortunate enough to get in in 2009, we can take our pool! For starters, we will basically know who our team is out of the gate. We have a lot of kids who are ready to return, and the promise of new players who have shown interest in our Festival team is very exciting!
Our Spring tournament season is underway! We played four games in the Lafayette College tournament, winning 2 and losing 2. We lost in our playoff game, but we were competitive. Also, we did not have any subs for that game. I feel confident that if we had our full team (two players had a previous commitment) that we could have ended with a victory. Nonetheless, I am please with the way our team played! We only had one practice before the tournament. Starting this week, the practices will become regular (every Sunday) so that we can become ready for our other five tournaments.
Keep your fingers crossed for May 1st!
I would love for some of our players to begin blogging for our site! If you are interested, please email me and I can give you access to the site.
